This past weekend I got to try out the Netflix viewing party, for the first time, with some friends from GirlGamer, theStream.tv and RunDLC. Of course we picked the Oscar-worthy-but-got-shut-out feautre, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus starring 80's sensation Debbie Gibson, or rather Deborah Gibson.

I would call this your own Mystery Science Theatre. Having a viewing party is great because one of us lived in Colorado and it was nice to not leave your home, drive, then search for parking and still have fun watching a movie with your friends. Before this feature, a friend from a different state and I used to rent movies, countdown when to press play, and have our own viewing party. That's all gone now. It's not in any way a complicated feature, but you do need both Netflix and a LIVE Gold account.

Being my first time in a party, it was adorable to see our avatars sitting together in a theatre like setting, but homey. It was quite entertaining to sit around talking with everyone through the headsets and see the avatars slightly interact with each other. There were emote options like "funny, happy, sad, bored, scared, boo, playful and love" to choose from, letting your character make a series of minor movements towards the movie screen. Now, although the movie was not up to par, it was an awesome experience interacting while watching. I recommend anyone try it with their friends and I promise, it'll be a blast.
