Finally the day has come. Yes friends, Star Wars: The Old Republic is officially accepting applications for closed beta testing. Ever since the announcement of a new MMORPG set in the Star Wars universe, fans have been itching to get their hands on any scrap of information regarding this title. The debut of the official trailer at E3 2009 escalated the heat, then Gamescom adding to the fire by showing a live public demo. The time has finally arrived for us to once more create our very own Star Wars characters for exploring and conquering the galaxy...

As of September 29, 2009, SWTOR finally opened it's doors to closed beta applications. Naturally, within minutes the site was down due to the unexpected high volume of new traffic. Don't fret, web masters have since then fixed the problem. Applicants will be selected based on PC specs, age, gender and other factors. However, developers have yet to announce a notification date for applicants.

For those still in the dark, SWTOR is an upcoming MMORPG for the PC. The game features two factions: the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. As of yet, four classes have been announced as Sith Warrior, Bounty Hunter, Trooper and Smuggler. Players moral decisions actively influence the storyline as well as NPC relationships. If players fails to meet an NPC's expectation, they may even find them selves in particularly bad spot. A handful of planets will be available for play; Korriban, Ord Mantell, Nal Hutta, Tytho and Coruscan among those. The story actually takes place 3,500 years before the events of the Star Wars movies.

SWTOR is currently being developed by BioWare. So far no official release date has been announced.

Mmm...Star Wars Galaxies was not created by Bioware. It was created by Lucasarts and Sony Online Entertainment. I know there are people that hold this game in some good regard (though that is a minority) you may scare some people off by associating Galaxies to this game. Galaxies....could have been better.

@Ninja_of_Sound- It's open to anyone with a PC who is over 18!

@vadthrawn- excellent catch, thanks. I had to re-write this three times because my computer was playing with me last night. Yea, Star Wars Galaxies wasn't the ... greatest game ever. But it can't be forgotten as the first Star Wars MMO.

I'm really excited about this one, for sure. But hopefully STO puts out too, haha. It would be a great world if there was both an awesome Star Wars and Star Trek MMO.
