Start off with a silent film era style and a mischievous little man who is obsessed with pies and you get The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. A new time-bending puzzle title from developers The Odd Gentleman. What began as a student thesis became a full XBLA title that will charm and astound players. Check out more after the jump.
I first caught wind of this game back at GCD 2008. It peaked my interests, but after the initial demo I heard nothing from the game for over a year. Flash forward to PAX 2009 and much to my surprise there it was playable on the exhibit floor. The team had been picked up by 2K games and had spent the last year polishing and finishing. I was thrilled to see them get such an awesome opportunity.
The games stars the villainous P.B. Winterbottom, a gentleman who is infatuated with those sweet, fruit-filled pastries. Then one adventurous day he swipes the fabled Cherry Chronoberry pie which gives him the ability to control time. After gaining these new powers, he vows to eat every pie in the world.
All of this makes an excellent set up for a unique puzzle game, much along the same lines as Braid. You can record, rewind, and fast forward time to get to those delectable pies. The player can also create multiple clones of P.B. Winterbottom to use as bridges or platforms to jump upon. At first the controls are quite simple, but some of the puzzles become extreme mind benders.
With aesthetics heavily inspired by early silent films, the game is completely fetching. Just take a look at the trailer down below. Look out for this game on XBLA in 2010!
