This week's Ask The GameGirls question comes from VideoVillain. He writes:

Sup Ladies. Here is my lame question, lol:

What contributions to the gaming community and/or industry would you make if you had $1 Million to spend... and what would you buy for yourselves?

VideoVillain (James)

What would I contribute? Is this humanitarian and what form do I check on my taxes to write all of that off? Where are the interesting questions, like what would I do with a video game that had a million explosions? That's what I would do with a million dollars; make a video game with a million dollars, one dollar per explosion. They may not be big at that rate, but who cares, its freakin one million, where you gonna get that elsewhere? Nowhere. Either that or get in bed with EA, crank out the Sims 5, 6, 7, and continue to destroy the video game industry.

It's a dream of mine to direct a game of my own, so if I were ever handed a million dollars that's where all of it would go. I'd open my own studio, hire a small group of talented people and get work. The creative freedom that a sum of money like that would give me. Then I'd use the profits of the game to buy things for myself :)

Well, I'd probably give myself a job in the gaming industry. Then I would bribe Sony to make another backwards compatible PS3. Next step would be to ask Microsoft to quietly surrender (should they choose to put up a fight, I will have no choice but to reveal the truth behind the RRoD-- it's a secret so don't ask). Finally I would give Blizzard the remainder of the sum to quit working on a new WoW expansion and just release Starcraft II already!! That said I would buy myself a Japanese PS2 and Guilty Gear in Japanese, as well as the Rock Band stage kit so I could be a real star. Hey, I can dream.

If I had a million dollars just sitting around I would want to donate a big chunk of it to Child's Play, although it isn't a contribution to the gaming industry really. I just think it is a really great cause because who doesn't want to donate games and toys to children in the hospital? I'm not really sure how I would want my money to be contributed to the industry though. I have no doubt though that I would spend some on improving my gaming set up!

I would fund a few open source gaming projects which would build on the reputation of games that have freely editable source code. This would help put the power in the hands of the gaming community as a whole, entrusting them to make updates and modifications with the end goal of having an ever-improving gaming platform. For me? Throw in a PS3 Slim. =)

If I had $1 million to play with I would definitely give a big chunk of it to my parents. Then I would go to Disney World for like a month and bring along all my friends. I would then put another big chunk of it into savings.

I am not sure what I would do to contribute to gaming though. This industry is already a billion dollar industry, not sure what more money I could add to make it better.

If I had $1 million to play with, I would work on finding a way to make Xbox Live memberships free to all users. That way we wouldn't have to pay a yearly or monthly fee. I'd also try to use part of it to help pay the GameGirl staff and to cover expenses for the group to go to the different gaming conventions.

As for myself, if I had $1 million dollars I would pay off the remainder on my house and car. Plus pay off my parents house. Followed by taking my family on an awesome vacation. Then I would add the missing elements to my gaming setup: a PS3 and a 72 inch TV (not to mention any games I want). Anything else left over, I would put into savings.

World peace. And a world peace expansion for The Sims 3.

What are some of your game suggestions?

haha i tell that that to the ladies i chat with all the time. I also want to create a REAL video game channel since G4 gave up on video games and have multiple GameGirl inspired shows like Nikole's The Game Show and Raychul's Gametopius show and Gaming News Shows and other shows featuring all you lovely ladies because you all rock :-D

Jess why would you have MS bow out? the Xbox is a cool system and competition is good :-) plus there is no way they wil bow out especially after beating the PS3 and they enjoy doing that haha :-p

Great ideas everyone :-)

Thanks for answering ladies! Great input!

@Nixie, I gotta say, your idea is my favorite!! Putting the power in the hands of the gaming community and indie developers is the way to go for sure!

Working in the industry only makes me want to do indie games that much more!! There are platforms to work on out there now, but most cost a good chunk of money and the rest are very limited; having an ever-improving platform to use would help make my dream come true!

@Raychul you should know better than that! Yes it is a multi-billion dollar industry, but that money goes to the suits and the marketers in the big publishing companies (i.e. EA, Activision). The designers/artists/coders see the shit-end of the stick. :(
