One day a year is set aside to celebrate all the great fathers out there. Today is that day so to wish all the dads out there a wonderful Father's Day here are the Top 7 Dads in Video Games.

7. James -- Fallout 3

In Fallout 3 you are raised sans Mom in a bunker underneath post apocalyptic America. James doesn't quite understand how to be the best dad, but dammit he tries. Sure he kind of abandoned you, but I choose to look at it he was letting you think for yourself.

6. Cranky Kong -- Donkey Kong

Cranky Kong is quite the trouble maker, he's the one who was originally throwing down barrels. It was revealed in Donkey Kong 64 that he was Donkey Kong's father and Cranky has clearly done his part to make sure Donkey follows in his footsteps.

5. James McCloud -- StarFox

James is the former leader of the StarFox Team. He was a great dad, and great pilot until one day he was lured into a trap and was killed....but oh my goodness, spoiler alert, he's not dead. At the end of StarFix 64 right when all hope is lost, James comes back to guide Fox out of the fortress.

4. Sam Fischer -- Splinter Cell

Sam Fischer's daughter, whom he loved greatly, was killed by a drunk driver in Splinter Cell: Double Agent. In the newest game due later this year he will embark on a mission to investigate the murder of his daughter. He is such a good dad he's going against the Third Echelon to avenge his daughter's death. Awww.

3. You -- Games like Fable 2 and the Sims.

Yeah this is kind of like when Time magazine puts foil on the cover and says you're the person of the year. You're not. But you can be a pretty great dad, virtually anyway. In games like The Sims 2 and 3 and Fable 2 you can have a family and be a doting parent. In The Sims you can even force your children to do their homework and if they refuse to comply you can lock them in a room and light them on fire, but the it's the knowledge that you can do this, and the choice not to that makes you a good father. Bravo.

2. Big Daddy -- Bioshock

There isn't a father tougher, heavier, and more protective than the Big Daddy. Big Daddy's sole purpose is to protect the Little Sisters in Bioshock. They can be ruthless and violent killers if you even get to close to one the of the girls, but otherwise are like kittens. Great big kittens with drills.

1. Eli Vance -- Half Life

Dr. Eli Vance is the best dad ever. He risks his life over and over again to help save his daughter Alyx. He's such a nice guy that he was the first person to make human contact with a Vortigaund. The only time I've ever come close to crying in a game was when (Spoiler) Alyx has to watch her dad get killed at the end of the Half Life 2 Episode 2.

Honoroable Mention: My Dad, who is busy saving the world via BF2.

How about Laguna from Final Fantasy VIII? He is Squall Leonhart's father too. I don't know if Donkey Kong has a son named Diddy, if that's true then Donkey must have been a father himself.

TheBaroness

Dude Harry Mason! He totally battles the demon of Silent Hill for his daughter Cheryl :P

Zumbikilla

These days I'm playing FF VIII for the first time in my life.... So.... Laguna is Squall's father? WTF!!!!!!!!! I didn't want to know that!!!! :(

warjilis

How about Ness' father from Mother 2 (Earthbound). Ness never sees him, but he's always a phone call away, he deposits money into Ness' account whenever he wins a battle and saves his progress. Now what dad would do that?

TheBaroness

Sorry dude, spoilers suck but the statute of limitations of FF8 spoilers ran up many years ago. Telling someone Laguna is Squall's father is like telling someone Aeris dies.

I'm with the Baroness, on this one....Harry Mason has got to be the best, unsung dad. And he got cut out of the movie, which I'm still bitter about. Great movie, but I still had some fan-girl beefs.

I agree with nikole, Eli is def the #1, it was a horrifying slap in the face when he dies at end of ep2, I hoping for some crazy secrets from him, but now we'll never know! ugh!
