With the WCG Ultimate Gamer TV show making more and more gamers aware of the tournaments, I felt compelled to try my hand at it. The tournaments opened up in April, and will continue to run through August. So I went to the site and registered. Since at the time I only had 2 options (Guitar Hero World Tour or Virtua Fighter 5), I chose to compete in Guitar Hero World Tour.
I know I’m not the greatest at Guitar Hero compared to someone like Starslay3r. But I like to think I can hold my own for the amount of time I have been playing it (only a couple months, here and there). So even though I was only at a Medium difficulty level, I signed up.
Last night was the first day of the tournament, and was eliminated in the first round. But I'm ok with that, because to be perfectly honest, I didn't really expect to move past the first round. I was there for three things:
1. More Tournament Experience,
2. To learn the GH Tournament system, and
3. To have fun and learn pointers for my own GH gameplay.
I was lucky the first round to get to play against another female, as well as someone I know. I had the pleasure of playing against PMS Wedge. (She did awesome by the way!) Even though I lost, I am very proud of myself. Two weeks ago I was playing on medium and had only been playing the game every once in a while for a couple months.
Yesterday, I cracked down on my practice time and practiced hard. With my practice, I was able to complete 2 different songs repeatedly on expert. (During the tourny no fail mode is on. So of course those ones I made it through.)
Overall the tournament was great. I didn't win. But I now have more experience in tournaments (other than FPS) and I had fun. And isn't that what it's all about. : )
Look out though. Next time, I plan to go much farther! Plus I’m still waiting to find out which FPS game they plan on adding. (I think it is going to end up Halo 3, but you never know.)
