I have to disagree. Not everyone who works for GameStop tells customers wrong information. I know many individuals who work for GameStop and if they tell people incorrect things to the customers (ex. Taking a game as trade in as defective, when you know it is in working condition. Lying to a customer in general results in disciplinary action.) they will get into trouble, and depending on the circumstance, have even been fired for it.

GameStop has morals? who knew?
Seriously though, GameStop is one of the worst companies in existence, I know some people on here work there and for some reason will defend it, but I've worked there too, and most people that actually work there know that GS doesn't give a damn about the customers.
Plus they aren't technically a monopoly, considering that lots of other stores out there sell video games, and even some of them sell used (Blockbuster comes to mind rather quickly with that statement) but they've bought out essentially all of their other direct competitors. Remember FuncoLand? how about EB Games? Babbages? Software Inc? Yeah, all bought out my none other than GameStop. Not to say they changed the name on them to gamestop, one of the 4 in my town (all used to be different stores, listed from above) is still actually named babbages.
When I worked there you know what corporates reasoning was for giving up craptastic hours? so we wouldn't learn how to steal. I'm not even kidding. They couldn;t just.. do the right thing and let people make a living, if nothing that promotes stealing, because you don't have any money to buy any damn games on $25 a week.

you know I had a really good rant about how terrible of a company GS is, but it was too big for one comment, so I made a 2nd.
This is my first complaint about the new layout. my 2nd overrode the first. get rid of the 2 minute edit window please.

(continued, don't pay attention to my 2nd comment, the first one disappeared until I refreshed the page a few minutes later)
You know all those cheap games in a bin at Wal-Mart? well go inside a gamestop close by, I'm sure you'll find at least ten copies each of virtua fighter 5, the napoleon dynamite game, and the next gen sonic game from a couple years ago. Ask to see one of the discs, I bet you they'll be flawless. Same with the cover art, and the guide. Becuase it was never played, It was stolen from wal-mart, taken to gamestop, and traded in, usually for cash, usually to buy drugs. Don't even try and call BS, you know its true, I see it all the time.
I'm not even gonna start on trade in values/used game prices, theres usually a 200%-300% markup from trade in value.
seriously though, I can't believe ANYBODY that works for GS would actually defend them. wow.
just...
wow.

BobaFettucini- I'm sorry that you have such a poor opinion of GameStop. Maybe they treated you poorly, and maybe the GS in philly should have handled their situation a little better, but the reality is that the world is not black and white. There is no good and bad, just a lot of stuff in between. I have never had a poor experiene at a GS. There are 4,100 in the US, and they are up %10 in sales in a time of economic crisis. I'm sorry that's how you feel about them, but they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Yeah, I don't know if I would defend GS they're the number one retailer of stolen games.
Its really not about your experience as it is morality.

I'm not saying that ALL employess at GS are going to try and haggle you for your money. But when you're like me and you have your manager pressing you to get more of everything than it can be rather "evil" so to say. I know that when we were getting pressed to get reservations our manager told us "if someone wants to cancel theirs, tell them our system isn't letting us." We're pretty much told to lie or exaggerate the truth just so individual stores can compete with one another and not get bitched at. It's not getting to the point where the stores in our district are cutting people's hours if they feel you're not getting enough people to trade games, buy more items, or reserve more games.
Heck, if you don't answer the phone correctly now, and you're called by a secret shopper, you'll get suspended. GS is definitely in the "WE NEED $$$$$ RAAAAWR!!!!" mode right now so that doesn't help situations. But yeah, GS isn't all to blame for this, those peopel should have been smart enough to know to wait for the release date.

I love GameStop and I don't care what anyone says. You can't blame the company for trying to make money when economy is bad.
