Many rumors and speculations have been surfacing over the past few weeks about a price drop for the 80G PS3.  Practer stated that the PS3 would drop from $399 to $299, and even speculated that the Xbox 360 following suit short after. While the most recent of rumors began when an online magazine reported that a Sony rep said the company would have a price cut on the PS3 to round out the Sony fiscal year.

 

With so many rumors, Sony was had no choice but to respond about the PS3 price drop.  A statement issued by Sony to Edge stated that, "There are no plans for a price reduction on PS3 in March 09, and anything reported on or discussed otherwise is purely rumor or speculation," said a Sony statement issued to.

 

Only time will tell when the next price drop will be, but Sony has guaranteed it will not be in March of 2009.

Ack! My brother is telling me that he wants a PS3 as soon as the price of the system dropped, but guess I'll have to go for a X-Box 360 then. Looks like the PS3 will remain the most expensive console for many years to come.

Curtis, you want a 360 anyway. The PS3 is way behind the times and isn't worth the bajillion dollars you spend. The PS3 is going to stay high in price because they need that money. Even the Wii is outselling it. Sony doesn't like to talk about it, but financially?? They're not doing very well.

you're joking right? xbox is good, but nothing else interesting is coming out for it except alan wake. everything else is on both systems. I'm looking forward to Uncharted 2, GT5, GoW3, Infamous, Killzone 2, and White Knight Chronicles this year, plus all of the great multiplatform games. Please don't be biased.
