CES 2009 was exploding with new tehnology. One type booth that stood out to every passerby was the 3D gaming booth, both Mitsubishi and Sony are taking the plunge into 3D. The concept of 3D gaming is far from novel but the gameplay has yet to materialize. Could 2009 be the year we see it?

On day one of CES Mitsubishi demod their new Nvidia 3D technology on one of their 3D tv's. This product enambles the contenet on the tv to become 3D, glasses needed. The new technology will be avaialbe to the public as soon as next month for $200. Of course the home entertainment PC, and 3D enabled LCD will cost extra. So far there are mixed reactions to the demo. Some people feel like this is going to revultionize gaming as we know it while others were far less impressed, claiming there was only a 5-10 feet range that the images would be clear.
Sony seems to be on board for future 3D games as well. Sony also demoed new 3D games at CES. Akira Shimazu, the senior general manager of Businiess Development for Sony was quoted saying, "As data, our game content has already been available in 3D format, and, therefore, it is not difficult to make the shift to stereovision. Currently, we are waiting the standard for three-dimensional Blu-ray Disc to be established." Leading many to believe it's just a matter of time before a 3D game is officially announced. Shimazu went on to say, "The standard will be finalized at the end of 2009 at the earliest, and products will be released in 2010."
Many Sony fans think breaking away from the pack and exploring this new technology might be exactly what Sony needs to stand out. Sony's sales have been dwindling and they have been faced with hundreds of employees being layed off.
Personally, I look forward to adding another gaming perihprial to my face: 3D glasses.
