So I'm sure a lot of people, myself included, are pretty pumped about the new F.E.A.R. game, set to release on February 10th. An equally exciting and bizarre new viral marketing campaign seems to be linked to the game's upcoming release.

If you received a mysterious package in the mail with an anonymous man on DVD telling you to go to a nearby storage unit and pick up a suitcase, would you do it? More after the jump.

Suitcase of Doom
What is going on, you ask? Apparently some people have been sent a package containing a DVD, a key, and a note stating "Watch the DVD, it will explain everything." They are directed to a storage unit near their home to retrieve a suitcase with a 3-digit code lock. These people have until December 5th to try and figure the combination out on their own, at which time the "Case Man" will post the code on the F.E.A.R. 2 forums.

What does this to do with F.E.A.R. 2? The DVD specifically mentions the game being "compromised", as well as a F.E.A.R.-related event in New York. It'd be easier to just show you-- here's YouTube vlogger PhillyD's footage of his quest to retrieve the case:

My personal thoughts on this? AWESOME. Despite my distaste for scary games, this marketing campaign has fueled my interest in F.E.A.R. 2 even further. While I assume many other such packages have been mailed out, it surprises me that only a couple of these locked cases have been brought to the public's attention. I'm REALLY excited to find out what's inside. Check back on the 5th, and I'll dig up some details on this mysterious case's contents.

The first F.E.A.R. game was awesome, I can't wait for the 2nd! I'm glad it will be on consoles the first go round. Now I won't have to upgrade my pc.

Raychul- When the first F.E.A.R. came out, I was too terrified to pay attention to any of the media. I'm surprised it didn't come up on my search. Thanks for letting me know XD I'm pretty stoked to check this out, though I'm not sure if I'm too much of a pansy for it :P

FEAR was a sweet game. thats a crazy pr stunt.
FEAR related event in NY? i hope its in the city cause i will be there if it possible.

No way would I want a case like that. Haven't you ever seen Pulp Fiction? Next thing you know, Sam Jackson and John Travolta are in your apartment eating your breakfast and screaming passages from the Bible. But I still have to play F.E.A.R. sometime, I guess I just never got around to trying it.

Rini

Greensabre- I didn't either, which is why I'm going to try to play through it first. I think if the first game frightens me to the point where I can't play it, I'll still listen in on all kinds of details on F.E.A.R. 2. I really don't like scary games, but after playing Dead Space, I'm more open-minded. =]
