Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Having beat the game and now happily completing the remaining side quests in Fallout 3, I learned that there will be downloadable content available to sink my teeth into starting in January 2009. Bethesda had revealed at E3 that the game would be followed by original DLC, but had failed to specify when. In addition, they put off many PS3 owners in stating the DLC would be available for the 360 and PC versions only, However Pete Hines, voice of Besthesda, had this to say about the lack of DLC coming to the PS3:

For us, with a game that offers 100 hours of gameplay, we don't feel like we're sort of short changing you up front, he said. You're gonna get your $60 worth out of this game, no matter what platform you buy it for, because there is so much content and so much stuff to do. And you can replay it and have it play out differently. So I think we feel pretty confident in terms of, no matter which platform you choose, you're getting a good experience that will hopefully be one of the best, if not the best game you play this year on that platform.

Beyond that, he admitted, if you really sort of deadlocked and you've gotta have your reasons to make a decision between one platform or the other, then yeah, DLC may be one that may push you towards one platform.

The upcoming DLC will be very similar to what Bethesda did with Knight of the Nine in Oblivion: Providing players with not only hours more content, but also unique quest lines as well, as Hines went on to say:

"It'll be similar to what we did with Knights of the Nine in Oblivion, where it's like whole new quest lines, new stuff, that kind of thing.

"We want to do stuff like that, where it's adding hours of tangible stuff to the experience. And it plugs into your existing game, so whether you're starting a new game, or you're playing for 40 hours, you can go off and play this,"

So, what can we Fallout 3 fans expect, and when can we expect it? Three different DLC packs will be available in each month from January -March next year, and here is a content breakdown:

  • 1. Operation Anchorage: Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe ... the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.
  • 2. The Pitt: Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.
  • 3. Broken Steel: Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

And if that wasn't enough to get you excited, a 2011 release date for a Fallout 4 has been hinted at! To quote reuters.com:

"I think it's good for people to miss things," said Todd Howard, executive producer of the game. "Ten years between 'Fallout' is a bit long, but I think there's this nostalgia factor."

Fans of the post-Apocalyptic game, set in Washington, D.C., won't have to wait another decade for "Fallout 4." Howard said he believes three years is a good time frame between games.

Exciting times ahead for Fallout 3 fans!

Hopefully there be a patch to fix some problems in the game. Whenever I see or be near the Jefferson Building my game freeze so yeah I cant get past that to be able to finish the main quest :( I did some side quest and pretty much explore the whole map. This game is so amazing I cant get enough of it so those DLC would kick ass cant wait for it.

I think I'll wait for the version that includes all this stuff in the disc. By the time it releases I will definitely beaten all the games that I have. lol

DLC should be available for PS3... that was a BS answer! There's NO reason for this... I know MS probably paid to keep it exclusive... but wouldn't PS3 sales make up for that. Exclusivity SUCKS!

January is too long to wait, I fear I have basically done everything in Fallout 3 now. I even finally managed to find the remnants of a crashed UFO.

Nice! I'm so in love with this game. It would be surprising to me if fallout 3 does not get game of the year. Too bad for PS3 owners who will be missing out on the DLC, but that is just another reason why you should be playing this game on a nice PC. I saw my friend playing on his 360 and it did not do it justice.
