Rumors have started circulating as to whether or not the Ghostbusters Game will actually make release. Last month, it was reported that Gamestop cancelled preorders of the game across all systems and returned consumer money. In addition, the game is also no longer on their website's list of up and coming releases.
What we do know for certain is the game was scheduled to be released this fall, and has now been delayed to sometime in 2009.
According to Terminal Reality Boss, Mark Randel, the game will still be published:
Ghostbusters will be published, said Randel. Thats all I can say at the moment.
Months ago, when Blizzard and Activision merged to form the world's largest gaming coorperation, Blizzard was already in posession of other Vivendi properties, such as Sierra. Sierra and a number of their up and coming titles have now fallen by the wayside, which proves to not hold much hope for the new Ghostbusters title.
What is reassuring is the 3rd Ghostbusters movie is currently in production, and all four actors have not only lended their voices to the game production, but also have had a large part in writing the script as well. I think, in the end, it will only be a delay of the game and not a full on cancellation, mostly due to the popularity of the franchise and the upcoming movie. We will most surely see it one day, if not by Sierra/Activision, then by another company.
Until then just remember.... do not cross the streams.
Nostalgia Trip:

God, that game was a bitch, wasn't it?
