Is it just me or does it seem like anytime something fun is released, someone somewhere in the world gets their panties in a bunch over it? Spore is no exception. Creationists are outraged at the title for what they claim is "Propaganda." some Creationist groups are even lobbying for a ban, claiming:
"this entire game is propaganda aimed directly at our children to teach them evolution instead of creationism."
Funny enough, the game actually resembles the Creationist model of existence far more than Darwinist Evolution. The mere fact that you can have one specific race of creature and, in a single generation, evolve into something that looks nothing like the first model does not suggest a gradual evolution based on the survival of the species (at least, they didn't survive any better... still getting owned in the field... grumble grumble). In fact, it no more promotes Darwin's theories on Evolution than Pokemon does.
Instead, the game functions through an omnipotent being (you the player) making instant changes to the world and your creatures. As anyone knows, evolution involves millions of years and slow, gradual changes. While Spore would be a boring game had it taken the evolution too realistically, it hardly serves as mirrior for Neo-Darwinism.

AMENDMENT: Reader JoeSFO, in his ever vigilant watch to help keep gamegirl.com the best it can possibly be, has alerted me to the fact that this was, indeed, a hoax site I sourced from. As I mentioned in the comment section, this was written before truth was admitted on the part of the authors. Although this particular comedy/tragedy of a situation fell through, I am sure others can appreciate that this kind of fervor occurs anytime anything is released that challenges the views of the people. This goes for creationism and neo darwinism alike. Thus has not lacked complete applicability.
I feel like Oprah apologizing for the book, "A Thousand Little Pieces" now ^_^
