PC fans will not be experiencing Gears of War 2 this November, or ever in fact. The project for the PC version was cut, as explains Mark Rein, Epic Games VP. However, Rein makes it clear this decision was not based on the previously speculated concerns of piracy:
"The reason we decided not to develop Gears 2 for PC was so that we could focus our resources on making Gears 2 the best possible Xbox 360 game it could be rather than splitting them across multiple platforms like we did with the first one. I think Gears 2 will be a better game for it and that this was the right decision.
Even though People Can Fly worked on Gears PC (mostly doing the new multiplayer content and some of the porting chores) it still required significant effort from several folks on the Epic side. That effort took resources away from some of the post-ship support for Gears on 360. On Gears 2 we decided 100% of the effort was going to go to the one console version. I believe that concentration of effort has made Gears 2 an even better game than the original. The reaction we've seen this week from the press who got to play a little bit of the game appears to be confirming that. In addition PCF is now working on their own kickass game, to be published by EA, which is being designed from the start for both PC and console as opposed to Gears which was designed for console and then ported to PC.
Is piracy a problem with PC gaming? Sure, but that has nothing to do with this situation. This was simply about how we could best maximize the use of our limited resources."
Personally, I don't hold alot of hope for the game in general, but removing the ability for the PC fanbase to play the game on their method of choice is only further sealing the coffin on PC gaming.
