The Grand Theft Auto series was banned in Thailand after a 19 year old student killed a taxi driver. The student admitted that GTA inspired him to kill the taxi driver and steal the cab, because he wanted to see if it was as easy to do it in real life as the game. In response to this, the Thailand officials have banned the series and stated it was due to the games' obscene content that prohibits reproduction, violence, possession, and distribution.

Any stores carrying or selling the game will face a fine of $135 and up to three years in prison. Online retailers will get 5 years in prison and $3000 fine.

**The following is my opinion. So please take it as such.**

On a side note, I feel this is a horrible set back to the gaming community. This can only lead to more bans and limits to game play, as well as harsher legislation for the gaming community to see in the coming years. I wish that so many people wouldn't be penalized for the actions of so few. Part of me wonders if he used the video game as an escape goat. A way to say he wasn't totally responsible for his actions. But only time will tell what kind of penalties lie in wake for the gaming community.

Hmmm...gaming might be a reason but a country where evrything is prohibited is certainly a really good cause of frustration for anyone who live there so i cant understand why theyr are surprised thath someone did that..will they stop selling knife if someone says....hmm the knife told me to kill everyone in the room!!

games can inspire methods of violence but even without the game a violent person is a violent person. For a person to play a video game and try to act it out is most likely an idiot. Maybe they should make a test to find out if people are mentally able to play games.

an escape goat is a term used for when you blame something on something else so that you don't take the full blame or full brunt.

For example if you killed somebody purposely with your car then drank alcohol so when your busted your caught with manslaughter instead of murder because your were drunk thats using alcohol as a escape goat (i could explain were the term comes from but i can't be bothered btw this murder plan is copyrighted by me, its my dam plan lol)

First used by the ignorant for the word "scapegoat" but it is now commonplace to use it tounge-in-cheek, just as the word "Internets" is used referencing Dubya's plural addition to the singular item.

Thailand has much bigger problems than grand theft auto. that kid was just looking for a scape goat. let me know when Liberty City starts to look like Thailand. that is their argument, right? that it looks like their everyday life and that they believe that it's actually possible? Thailand fails.
