After watching the Nintendo Press Conference I can't help but feel abandoned. Since the 1980's Nintendo's innovative, and exciting franchises are what made Nintendo what it was. Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda are the games we were raised on. Platformers, Puzzles, RPG's are the foundation of Nintendo. But this year Nintendo seems to be turning away from the games and the fans that made them what they are.
Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the most prolific people in the entire industry spent 4 minutes pretending to play a saxophone. He made no major announcements and didn't discuss any of the franchises he created.
You can stop showing us your bar graphs, and your sales records, I get it. It prints money. The Wii is owning the market because of it's appeal to casual gamers. Nintendo is a business, it needs to make a profit, fine. But completely abandon every single hardcore gamer who has made you what you are is ridiculous. We bought the NES, SNES, N64, and the Gamecube. We waited in line until 5am to get the Wii. We defended you over and over again against trolls who said you were a gimmick, and you abandon us?
And no Animal Crossing is not hardcore. The Wii has a pathetic representation over the internet. When they say I can easily interact with my friends, frankly I just don't believe them. Playing with my friends on Brawl was such a hassle, that rarely actually worked. GTA: China Wars is an attempt to appease us hardcore fans. A failed attempt. I have GTA already, as do all fans of GTA. I think Nintendo is confusing adult gamers with hardcore gamers. A popular M game doesn't count as a xcore Nintendo game.
Want to know what Wii owners are going to be doing this year? Playing fetch. Sharpening Pencils. DS owners? They are getting a cook book.
Here is the biggest news from Nintendo's Conference:
-Wii Motion Plus accessory with Wii Sports Resort (coming in the spring).
-Animal Crossing: City Folk, with Wii Speak Microphone accessory.
-Wii Music
What will be the Wii's legacy? The only franchise established on the system is the Wii Games (Play, Sports, Resort).
Where is the new Mario game? Where is the promised Wii Zelda game? How about the much rumored Kid Icarus? Metroid?
I'm sure there are tons of people who feel the same as I do, and probably just as many who think I'm way off base. But I really feel like my loyalty should lie with a company that deserves it, and as it stands now Nintendo does not. What do you think?
