I heart movies. I heart Gears of War. I heart Len Wiseman. The only thing I could heart more would be this trifecta!

Yes, it was recently announced that Len Wiseman is set to direct the movie adaptation of 2006 Game of the Year, Gears of War. Granted we have been hearing about this alleged movie for over a year but with filming scheduled to start next year in time for a 2010 release, it's time to start getting things in "gear" (I made a funny!).

Video game movies have gotten such a bad rap thanks to the antics of directors like Uwe Boll. Occasionally, they do well but only when they are taken seriously. An issue I have taken up before. [See more here.] So far, it seems that New Line Cinemas wants to put a full effort into making the movie the blockbuster that the game has been.

Dont know Len Wiseman? Here is his list of movies.

  • " Underworld 3: The Rise Of The Lycans (2009)
  • " Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
  • " Underworld: Evolution (2006)
  • " Underworld (2003)
  • " Godzilla (1998) (props)
  • " Men in Black (1997) (props assistant) (uncredited)
  • " Independence Day (1996) (assistant props)
  • " Stargate (1994) (property assistant)
  • Not bad so far.

The Gears of War franchise is banking with a comic book series scheduled to be released, a novel, a sequel and now the movie. There have been numerous forums and online conversations about who should be in the movie and what it should be about. Well, writer Chris Morgan, I am sure, has some ideas as well. I thought I would give him my two cents however since he is busy with the Fast and Furious 4 script and sweating over the release of Wanted, another screenplay he wrote. [Impressed yet?]

I have been trying to fathom the perfect cast and I have to find a place for Vin Diesel. Maybe Dom? Although he is not Latino and that would be great. So I am going with Franky G. I am certain he could pull it off.

Cole Train has to go to Michael Clarke Duncan. I don't want to see some guy who has to buff up just to play the part. Rarely works.

I honestly hope they choose some unknowns for some of the other parts, including Marcus Fenix. A careful balance has to be paid to pull this movie off. Some people are suggesting Bruce Willis but as much as I love Bruce, I am not convinced it would be a good idea. Maybe Kiefer Sutherland? Or maybe he is Baird?

    Thoughts?

Duncan was born to be cole, but there is a curse for video game based movies, and gears ddefiniteli deserves a great movie, hope it all goes well. And what happend to the Halo movie? is it cancelled? i head that Peter jacson was going to be the producer. i want a halo movie as well. Farewell.

Vin Diesel can b a Latino look at Robert Downey He's Black in this 1 movie comming soon. the 1 with
    Ben Stiller

    NuyoRiquena

I agree he could "look" Latino afterall, what does a Latino "look" like? But Tropic Thunder is a comedy. To make sure this movie is taken seriously, they have to be very careful because of the rep of video game adaptations.

VIn could EASILY be Marcus. Ving Rhames is a more convincing COle than Michael Clark.....Michael is just to teddy bearish....The guy from The Closer could be Dom....but Franky G works too. I like the choice for Kim but you didnt give his name.....I recognize him from Fast and the Furious and that Bond movie. The Colonel should be the Drill Instructor from Full Metal Jacket....the one that gets shot in the bathroom. I think Baird should be played by Owen Wilson or someone that can be funny. Kiefer is too cool to be Baird.

I love me some Gears, but I really can't get my hopes up on this one given the history of game to movie conversions....that and underworld??? horrible movie series, and Live Free or Die Hard? I don't even want to talk about how that movie shouldn't exist as a die hard movie.
