Having made 15 "Top Most Wanted Games of 2008" lists since it's announcement last November, I found it quite shocking this little nostalgic gem managed to elude me for this long. So in case you're like me and live under the proverbial rock (or in the UK, equally useful for never hearing anything about games or game releases) Sierra is bringing us Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

According to the website, the storyline of the game is that of the original movie, and it even boasts that the story for the game has been "penned by the original creators!" which makes me a little bitter because it means Dan Aykroyd could pull it together long enough to help release the game but turned from normal human being to space cadet in 0 to 60 seconds when the prospect of a third movie came up. If youre reading this Aykroyd, I want you to know I'm highly disappointed.
With Manhattain newly overrun by ghosts and other supernatural creatures, it's up to you to take on the role of a new recruit joining the original, famous Ghostbusters team. Equipped with a variety of unique weapons and gadgets, you will hunt, fight and capture a wide range of uncanny phantasms and demons in an all-new, funny and frightening battle to save New York City from its latest paranormal plague. -Official Site
There isn't a whole lot of information to be had on the game, then again what is really needed? The storyline and characters are familiar ones, we all know how it goes. But I can't seem to get rid of this nagging thought:
is the game going to be gimmicky? I would guess to a certain extent yes, considering they completely resurrected a movie plot two decades old, and it's going to be hard strapping the same proton pack onto Harold Ramis's chubby little frame, now isn't it? However, being the Ghostbusters fan that I and many people are, will it matter? There is a huge difference in my mind in turning out a crap game to a movie just released and taking something we remember from childhood and bringing it back to us in the form of a game, regardless of how the actual gameplay is. We will just have to wait until fall to find out, and for better or worse I will be getting my copy of the game. This will be released on the pc, ps3, 360, wii, psp, and nds.
Until then, here is a nice little nostalgic screenshot from the NES Ghostbusters 2 and a video trailer.
