There is a popular rumor going on that Microsoft is working on a spring clean up for Xbox Live's Marketplace. Part of this supposed clean up is dumping a good portion of the arcade games that just aren't selling like they used to, or like they had hoped. So if any of the following games are ones that caught your interest or you were planning on picking up later, now is your chance, better do it before it's too late.

Crystal Quest
Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
Hardwood Hearts
Texas Hold 'em
Fatal Fury Special
Contra
Marathon: Durandal
Missile Command
Time Pilot
Track & Field
Hardwood Backgammon
Hardwood Spades
Pac-Man
Frogger
Mad Tracks
Root Beer Tapper
Super Contra
Geon: Emotions
Soltrio Solitaire
Arkadian Warriors
TiQal
Rush'n Attack
Defender
Double Dragon
Xevious
Gyruss
Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe
Battlestar Galactica
Centipede & Millipede
Spyglass Board Games
Tetris Splash
Ecco the Dolphin
Yie Ar Kung-Fu
Wing Commander Arena
Novadrome
Shrek-N-Roll
Scramble
Tempest
Street Trace: NYC
Word Puzzle
New Rally-X
Cyberball 2072
Screwjumper!

It's not clear when this could be happenening or if some of these games are going to an Arcade Collection or some thing of the sort. Some of these I am pretty surprised too see on the list, but others I am not surprised at all. Hopefully Microsoft is setting a new standard for XBLA games, no more half assed, buggy arcade games, and they need to make room for new ones. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Does no one understand or appreciate the classics?

They won't go away. My guess is they'll be tucked in a corner waiting for someone to rediscover them. Or lowered to 200 points apiece where they'll sell in droves.

Where the hell is Yaris? I don't care if its free, that game is absolute crap and I'm being nice when I say that. I'm not sure exactly why Microsoft would pull this move. Are they taking up too much room on their servers or what? There might be future Xbox 360 purchases who'd like to get in on some of these games. It seems MS is just throwing money out by doing this.

I have to agree with DCD, they should cut the price in half rather than just lose them for good straight away. Surely a few more sales would be better for both microsoft and the developers before they take them off the servers.
