So out of boredom today I was watching American Idol: Season 7 Finale with my mother and one of the commercials that came on caught my attention: Carrie Underwood playing NintenDogs on Nintendo DS. What?! So of course I hurried up stairs and did my research. It seems that Nintendo is using a new tactic to get young girls and women playing games by getting this amazing woman to do commercials for them.

But Carrie Underwood isn't the only one. The other amazing women they have promoting are America Ferrera and Liv Tyler. Each of them has their own DS and in the commercials are playing their favorite games from the little handheld system.

The New Faces Of Nintendo DS

This is an interesting tactic by Nintendo and it will help to show that women in gaming aren't as "rare" as some would like to think. Especially since most people would never think that such amazing women like these three could ever be gamers --but since these 3 women are some of my favorite celebrities I am honored to have them as the face for Nintendo and future gamers.

Here are some behind the scene videos:

Unfortunately I couldn't find the video for Liv Tyler on Youtube but check out the videos and more behind the scenes information at: I Play For Me .

that is a pretty smart tactic. im sure a lot of girls, and some boys, will see their favourite people with a DS and, if by any chance they don't have one already, want one. GJ Nintendo (Y)

hey, just wanted to say this, it might only be happening to me - whenever i post a comment i get an error, but my comment still goes through...

FemmeFatale

It's a really cool idea. I see lots of girls with DS's.
and they didn't make them pretend to be hardcore. I love it :)

Raychul

You would be surprised how many people I see riding the bus every day to and from work pull out a DS and start playing. Older ladies, business men, moms, dads...it's not just kids and us hardcore gamers...it's everyone!

EJStrat

Do you ladies prefer the DS or PSP? I've yet to pick up either, kind of on the fence about it.

Navie

the DS has alot more versatility and a wider spectrum of games EJ, its simply the better choice LOL.

@Raychul, I know! I work in a call centre and alot of young ladies, including myself, are always playing the DS! Sometimes, we have epic office battles of like Mario Kart and Mario Party lol!

@Calamity, this is truely awesome! I know it made me wanna pick my DS up and play, and its something I already do on a daily basis! I hope this can inspire other girls to get into gaming. And I love all three ladies featured here too!

Flea_Sixty

While its great that they have these females in the adverts, it would be intresting to find out if they are indeed gamers and the behind the scenes videos were not just another marketing ploy.

Sorry to be so down about it i got up on the wrong side of bed. If they are gamers though thats pretty cool as you wouldnt think that some of them would actually play games.

Either way great article.
:)

I have a PsP, I have yet to own a DS. I think I've played like one game on the PsP though. :S There isn't the greatest selection of games that I like on there.

VivaLeResistance

I was so disappointed when I read the article...I thought It was a ds redesign lol

Miz_Calamity
